Research Blog: Music Video Conventions


 For our Music Video My group has decided that Material Girl by Santana would be our song. Our theme of the whole music video is going to be bougie, expensive, and meticulous.

The genre of this song is rap.

Music video like these just give over all rich vibes. Like flashing expensive things like jewelry and cars.

Conventions of rap music videos:

  • Cutaways, they do this a lot to relate what's going on the video to the lyrics.
  • Insert zoom, they do this to emphasize what their rapping about. Mainly hen they want us to focus on something specific in the song, so they use the zoo to divert our attention towards it.
  • Diegetic sound, usually in the beginning of the video before the actual sound starts  they'll they have conversations while the beat is going. it gives us a feel of their surroundings and what's going on within them.
  • Tilt shot, to like show someone then tilt them out the frame.
  • Costume in the videos there are usually  nice looking clothing and shoes. Mostly a lot of  designer an jewelry is included to give off this seemingly lavish lifestyle
  • the use of props also help represent the rapper status and/or wealth; props may include expensive cars and excessive amounts of money. 
  • theres' always bright lighting, whether filmed during the night or day there's always a lot of flashing lights, mostly to add the effect of them being famous .

 Now that Loudui and have most of the clips. We were going to start the process of editing. The last project we did we used was iMovie. We had decided against the idea of using this software again because the commercial was boring. There really wasn't much that we could do editing wise with this software. So this time around we decided to use a software called capcut. We decided to use this because since Loudui was sort of familiar with it she knew that there would be more options editing wise. Since Loudui had the most experience with this software, she was going to edit. While I would just tell her what looks good and what doesn't Most of the videos were recorded on our friend/teammate, Nene. Genre Research: Action/Adventure

  • Common Camera Angles in action Action Films?  Usually there’s an establishing shot to basically set the tone and setting of where the adventure is going to take place — lots of close ups shots, to dramatize and put emphasis on what is going in the film. Mainly grabbing  the audiences attention and adding more attention to what’s happening — there’s always some point of view shots, in moments where something exciting or in action is happening, giving the audience the feel that they’re actually their experiencing it since it’s a view from what the character is seeing. —  • Common Mis-en-Scene in Action Films?  Bright, Bold saturated lighting along with it sometimes being dark toned, greyish on intense fight scenes. props usually containing weapons like guns and/or knives.  I’m Working on this music video project with Loudui. I decided to work with her because we are both in auxiliary together, and she is the person I know most in the class so I would feel more comfortable working with her. I think if I work to buy myself I wouldn’t really put in the amount of work I should. I feel like I drive better when I’m in a group in certain situations. Not all the time I feel like I do better in groups. Say if it was like a paper assignment, and you have to like write something I don’t think I would be able to do so well with another person. But since this is like a music video I think it would be a whole lot harder than it should be to do it by yourself. Because for say you need somebody to record the Music video if you were going to be in it. Or you would need somebody to be in the video if you wanted to record.
